MEDIA STATEMENT

Optus has advised that there has been an issue with their mobile phone tower in the Dapto area, which affected calls between 3am and 12.20pm on Sunday.

At least nine Triple Zero calls from the Dapto area failed to reach emergency services.

Welfare checks have been performed and thankfully everyone is ok.

The Federal Government is following up with Optus to get answers around what has happened here and how we can be assured that this won’t happen again.

Quotes attributable to Carol Berry MP, Member for Whitlam:

“I am very concerned on behalf of the community in Dapto that 000 calls failed on Sunday. I will be working with the Minister for Communications to ensure we get answers around how this occurred, because community is understandably expecting answer.”
