PENNY BURFITT, HOST: Good morning, Penny Burfitt with ABC Illawarra News.

The Member for Whitlam says she's confident everyday Australians will step up amid the global fuel crisis in line with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's message to the nation last night.

The Prime Minister urged Australians to go about business as usual in the rare national address, asking people to use public transport where possible and warning against panic buying.

Labor Federal MP, Carol Berry, says she's confident the public will rise to the challenge.

CAROL BERRY MP: I think Australians understand that this war is having impacts and reverberations across the globe and that we need to be doing everything that we can to try try minimise those impacts. So I think where Australians can help, they will do so.

BURFITT: Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is expected to announce a $1 billion economic resilience programme to help truckies, freight companies, fuel and fertiliser producers who are negatively impacted by the oil crisis today.
